Guerra, Santo Domingo, DR – Thanks to a strategic partnership between the LA Dodgers and the DREAM Project, another successful summer camp centered around fun and learning just wrapped up at the Futuro Vivo School in Santo Domingo. The camp, focused on interactive science and art, hosted 85 students from the academy’s surrounding community. Campers were introduced to innovative science classes and taught to value the natural resources surrounding their home. One special component of the camp was the DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) corner, where children's curiosity was the focus and all reading levels were encouraged to work and read together. At the end of camp, the students said goodbye with amazing memories, valuable knowledge, a Dodgers baseball kit, and books to build their OWN library at home.

Nurys E. Berroa Flores, lead teacher at Futuro Vivo, shared that the camp was filled with joy and enthusiasm, especially after not being able to carry out the camp during the pandemic: “There was strong integration between the team and the children, and the students learned very well together. There was an excellent turnout from everyone, a lot of order and respect, and an overall warm and inviting environment at the camp.”

Since 2017, DREAM and the Dodgers have been working together to provide engaging summer camps and extracurricular activities to support learning throughout the year. Highlights have been yearly Book Fairs for students to create their own at-home libraries and a Dodgers Book Competition in 2018, where three original books written by students and illustrated by Dominican artists were professionally published. This year, DREAM will be providing training to the teachers of the Futuro Vivo School in the areas of extracurricular activities and project-based learning, so that they can expand their students’ learning through courses, such as art classes and music.

DREAM is honored to be able to count on strategic alliances that allow it to expand the reach of its programs, serving more children and youth each year.
