Meet and Greet About the Importance of Family Involvement in Education
Kaffe, Puerto Plata, DR – This morning, professionals from the educational sector and interested collaborators came together to meet and discuss the theme “Promoting family involvement and participation in education”. The panel was moderated by Amanda Alcantara, writer and journalist, and composed of Yadira Lama de Bournigal, president of Alexia Foundation, Megan Jeanette Myers, associate professor at Iowa State University, and Pura Barruos, Reading Programs coordinator at DREAM Project. The gathering answered questions regarding the importance of family participation in education, and the strategies that
have been implemented to increase family participation in education and activities at school where the family can be involved. A very dynamic conversation took place with the participation of several attendees to the event with ideas and examples to promote the participation of the family in the teaching and learning process.
The event was attended by the Bishop of Puerto Plata, Monsignor Julio César Corniel Amaro, and the General Attorney of the Court of Appeals of Puerto Plata, Judge Kelmi Duncan, among other representatives of several non-profit educational organizations, ministries of the Dominican government and local educational centers.
DREAM Project strives to create links with professionals across the country as part of strengthening the organization's work and staff to continue addressing the needs of the communities on the north coast of the country, as it has been doing for the last 20 years.
