“Literacy is the first step towards freedom, towards liberation from social and economic constraints. It is the prerequisite for development, both individual and collective. It reduces poverty and inequality, creates wealth, and helps to eradicate problems of nutrition and public health.”

- Audrey Azoulay

Literacy

96% of 3rd graders in the Dominican Republic read below grade level

Reading is correlated with improved economic prosperity and quality of life, promotes gender equity and builds self-esteem.

We believe students of all ages, even in the hardest-to-reach communities, deserve access to quality education that inspires youthful creativity and imagination. Through our multi-faceted approach, we create an environment that fosters improved reading outcomes and educational attainment. Our programs equip classrooms with new and culturally appropriate resources, inspire storytelling and introduce teachers to innovative strategies and methodologies.

Our Literacy Programs

Our Literacy Methodology

DREAM implements a unique approach to literacy that is rooted in research-based best practices. Our approach includes direct instruction of phonics, decoding, reading comprehension and critical-thinking skills. Classes are delivered through differentiated, individualized and small group instruction that uses the most age-appropriate materials to engage students. Our learning environment helps pique student interest while creating a love of reading at a young age.
