Cabarete, February 13th, 2010 – The first annual DREAM Valentine Dinner was an incredible success, selling out in one week and bringing together a unique blend of north coast community leaders, DREAM supporters and new friends. Bliss Restaurant hosted this fabulous affair, with a delicious gourmet selection of food, excellent French wine, German Proceco, fantastic live music, an impressive silent auction and donated gifts for all. The evening was the perfect way to celebrate Valentine's Day.
Yet, what will continue to resonate with this special night is the fact that it was brainstormed, planned and executed by a group of DREAM supporters from the local community. The idea behind all of the fun was a sustainable means to support the DREAM Caraballo Batey Project, a very important preschool, at risk youth group and library serving Haitians, Dominicans and Haitian-Dominicans living in poverty in the community of Caraballo. This event started as an idea, grew to a monthly “DREAM Advisory Café” meeting and flourished into an event that has raised more than $4,000 US for this very deserving cause (http://www.dominicandream.org/caraballo.html).
We would like to thank our community organizers for their contributions, and we hope this sustainable vision spreads to inspire more potential supporters in confronting the needs of the Dominican Republic and its Haitian residents.
