The Dominican Republic suffers from dismal functional literacy rates and a severe lack of public libraries. In fact, The DREAM public library system is one of the only public library resources in the entire north coast of the country. The success of this program will dictate future investment in literacy and have a huge impact on how children prioritize literacy and the joy of reading. Stocked with over 3,000 picture books, novels, and board games donated from countries all over the world, it is now a bustling hub for children of all ages. The library is also home to a variety of DREAM Reading programs including story time and guided reading for preschool and younger students, and book clubs for Young Star students.
